Here is what I do and how I do it. For my background and track record, see the About me page.
I produce publication-ready outputs across the full range of formats that clinical, regulatory, and public health audiences require: peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, systematic review write-ups, technical guidance documents, policy briefs, medical education materials, and institutional reports including governing body publications.
I work across the full production cycle - from structuring the analytical argument and coordinating multi-author contributions through to final publication-ready output. My publication record includes The Lancet, Frontiers in Pediatrics, BMC Medical Ethics, Clinical Infectious Diseases, a Cochrane systematic review, and primary authorship of ECDC technical guidance referenced by multiple EU Member States. I am an active member of the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA).
I design studies and research frameworks that generate evidence fit for purpose - appropriate to the question, the context, and the resources available. My methodological training spans epidemiology, mixed methods, and health systems research, and I have designed and led field studies, digital surveillance pilots, household surveys, and programme monitoring systems across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
I lead and contribute to systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and narrative syntheses - including co-authoring a Cochrane systematic review, vaccine impact and effectiveness studies within a CRO environment, and structured evidence synthesis drawing on expert consultations, key informant interviews, and stakeholder surveys across multiple projects including primary authorship of ECDC technical guidance referenced by multiple EU Member States.
Whatever the evidence base - complex, contested, or incomplete - my focus is on producing a clear and honest account of what it can and cannot support.
I design health intervention programmes grounded in how people and institutions actually behave - integrating theory of change, logical frameworks, ethics by design, and social marketing and design thinking approaches from the outset. I develop M&E systems that are realistic to implement and produce information that is actually used, and I produce analytical reporting for donors, funders, and governing bodies that reports on results honestly - without overstating or underselling what was achieved.
Where needed I also develop the funding base for this work - writing proposals and securing investment from initial concept and stakeholder analysis through to budget narrative.
My experience spans community-level programme design and evaluation in low-resource settings through to headquarters-level corporate reporting for the World Health Assembly, and includes independent mid-term evaluation of European Commission-funded projects assessing implementation progress, governance, and results against agreed objectives.
I bring particular attention to ethics throughout - including data privacy, informed consent, equity and inclusion, and the ethical dimensions of research involving vulnerable populations and emerging technologies. I hold registered Ethics Appraisal Scheme Expert status with the European Commission, including specialist training in the ethics of VR and XR technologies.
Some engagements need someone who can hold the big picture while managing the detail - framing the approach, coordinating across technical disciplines and partner organisations, and ensuring the final product is both analytically sound and fit for purpose in the real world. I work at this level: bringing together evidence, people, and process to keep complex multi-contributor work coherent across competing priorities, tight deadlines, and diverse stakeholder interests.
My background spans the quantitative and qualitative, the data-driven and the human - from epidemiological research design to stakeholder engagement, behavioural approaches, and the design of interventions that work in practice, not just in theory. I bring particular attention to the ethical dimensions of this work - including in AI and digital health - informed by EC Expert training and independent study in this area.
